How to Become a Member Minimize

If you think you would enjoy learning about, and participating in technical rope rescue, swiftwater rescue, public safety diving, avalanche rescue, mantracking and other rigorous activities with a highly trained search and rescue team in the Reno/Sparks, Nevada area, we invite you to attend our meetings and find out what we are all about.

Our meeting / trainings are held every Thursday evening and often we hold additional training on Saturdays or Sundays.  We try to record the training locations and times here on our web site.  Please check the Calendar of Events page on this site each week for updated training information.  If you do not get the information you need, please e-mail us at: Washoe County Sheriff's Hasty Team

Requirements & Process Minimize
  • Complete the prescreening release and liability waiver at or before the first meeting.  The Washoe County Sheriff's Office will then do an initial review of your background.  If there are any questions from that review, someone will contact you to discuss the issues further.  Once a release of liability waiver is signed you will be allowed to particpate in Team training while your background is being checked.

  • After attending three consecutive meetings, you will be able to submit a full application for membership.  A more in-depth background check will be conducted by various government agencies - this may take two to four weeks.  During this period we encourage you to continue attending trainings.

  • During this entire process, we would like you to attend at least one WCSAR (Washoe County Search and Rescue) and one SVU (Special Vehicles Unit) meeting in addition to Hasty Team meetings.  This will help you understand what different teams do and which team is right for your talents and interests.

To find out dates, times and locations of those meetings, please contact:

WCSAR - Washoe County Search and Rescue at washoesar@yahoo.com

SVU - Special Vehicles Unit at washoesvu@charter.net

  • Provide documentation showing current certification in First Aid and CPR.  The minimum first aid requirement is to the basic level.  If you need to take these classes, please contact the American Heart Association for a schedule of upcoming classes.

  • Once the above is completed, you will be asked to attend a Hasty Team Board of Directors meeting.  At this meeting the board will interview you to determine if you are a good fit for the team.  The team will ask you to choose one specialty as your main focus, though you may certainly be involved in more than one.  However, your performance on the team will be gauged upon your involvement, and progress, in the main specialty chosen.  By focusing you will more quickly get the training and experience you need to be an active particpant on call outs.

Board meetings are held monthly at 7:00 p.m. in the Longley SAR office and are scheduled/posted on the Calendar of Events section of this web site.  The office is located at 3151 Longley Blvd, Reno, NV.  You will be asked to contact a Hasty Team Board Member prior to this meeting to let them know you wish to attend the Board meeting to discuss your membership.
