During a Washoe County Sheriff's Office Awards Ceremony held on Wednesday March 4th, 2009 at the Northern Nevada Regional Public Safety Training Center. An impressive array of Sheriff's personnel stepped forward to be recognized for their performance in the line of duty. Amongst the recipients were some members of the Search and Rescue community.
Deputy Brian Atkinson (former WCSAR member) - was recognized (Lifesaving Medal) for his saving the life of a female ATV operator who'd suffered serious injuries in a Peavine rollover. He also received the Bronze Medal for his first-on-scene response to the tanker crash near Stead airfield.
Eric Smith (Hasty Team and WCSAR member) - was recognized (Bronze Star) for his response to the same air crash.

Alan Tom (Hasty Team member) - was recognized (Lifesaving Medal) for his response to the triple-drowning call at Pyramid Lake when he intercepted the frantic family with the non-breathing baby and, revived it.
Lt. Russ Pedersen (former SAR Sergeant) - was recognized (Vincent Swinney Medal) for his exceptional 39-month performance as SAR Coordinator during which he was responsible for the acquisition of in excess of $500,000 worth of equipment through actively seeking grants, donations, special allocations.

This resulted in receiving boats, snowcats, and other vehicles and equipment to increase the effectiveness of the department's Search and Rescue capability.
Sheriff Mike Haley also thanked the 400 members of Search and Rescue, their spouses, and Russ's wife for their support and contributions to the community.
Other former Hasty Team members/now Washoe County Sheriff's Office deputies receiving awards were Jereme Wormington (Bronze Medal) and Joe Durbin (Lifesaving Medal).
